GESCO SE is an industrial group active in Materials Refinement and Distribution, Health Care and Life Science, and Industrial Assets and Infrastructure. As a strategic holding, GESCO SE acquires majority stakes in mid-sized industrial companies, often full ownership, and develops them for the long term. The subsidiaries operate independently, supported by the holding through coaching, consulting and controlling.
As collaboration between the independently managed portfolio companies increased, consistent management of Microsoft 365 workspaces became more difficult. Microsoft Teams is the central platform for communication and cooperation across the group. With 164 Teams workspaces and 470 users across the group, it became challenging to keep structures clear, ownership transparent and access secure. This raised the risk of redundant teams, inconsistent permissions and potential security or compliance issues. The subsidiaries needed freedom in how they worked, while the holding still had to ensure consistency, oversight and control without slowing people down.
To resolve these challenges, GESCO SE engaged bitery to implement EasyLife 365 Collaboration. The solution introduced clear governance rules, transparent structures and automated processes across Microsoft 365. Subsidiaries gained self-service capabilities to manage their own collaboration spaces, while the holding company retained central control through group-wide governance policies that applied to all companies.

Microsoft Teams has evolved from a niche solution into the primary communication platform. An analysis of the former environment showed that 70% of legacy Teams were no longer in active use. Today, new Teams are created via templates and governed from the first day, which keeps the environment purposeful, structured and easier to manage. Data can be shared reliably between subsidiaries and with external partners under uniform governance rules, while collaboration between the holding and its companies has become more transparent, efficient and straightforward.
As a result, GESCO SE now runs collaboration on a secure, well governed Microsoft 365 landscape across multiple companies.
